Mayor Havenar

Happy New Year!

2023 is off and running. The Board of Trustees, with three new members, has been diligently working on getting up to speed on the unique intricacies of Palmer Lake.

My commitment to engaging state and local legislators in Palmer Lake’s vision and future is of paramount importance to me. As a Board, we are building relationships throughout the State and attending the local activities of our County Commissioners, participating in both Pikes Peak Area of Governments and Pikes Peak Regional Building Authority, Colorado Municipal League, and seeking a seat at the table with other organizations.

This collaborative approach is key to unlocking exciting opportunities for the future of Palmer Lake. Establishing a thriving presence in our greater community is key to Palmer Lake’s collective voice in shaping our community and our niche in Colorado.

I am excited to announce that beginning February 1st, I will be holding weekly office hours at the Town office. Each Wednesday from 2-4pm and Friday from 9-11am, I will be available for questions, concerns, or simply a few minutes to chat and get to know one another. Individual Board members are committed in joining me for future office hours, which we will call “Moment with the Mayor.”

We want to strategically plan for the future of our community with all departments. Some current areas of focus include maintaining and improving existing structures (public facilities), prioritizing capital improvement projects, and focused grant planning. Additionally, with completion of the water system improvement report and the High Street drainage study, infrastructure and future planning must be discussed and determined. Watch for future workshops regarding planning of water infrastructure and drainage. Failing to plan is equivalent to planning to fail. Therefore, taking a hard look at the facts for the future of the community should be embraced rather than ignored or feared.

The 2023 Palmer Lake Board of Trustees is also committed to conduct an extensive review to amend the town ordinances as necessary. This Board is in full support of the Planning Commission and their efforts relating to land use and aligning with the new Community Master Plan. Recommendations by the Planning Commission for a revamp of sign code as well as a review of short-term rental ordinances.

We highly encourage citizens to get involved, ask questions, and bring an optimistic vision to Town meetings, which are held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. The Live Stream link is available at www.townofpalmerlake.com as a viable option for those who can’t attend. We welcome your thoughts and value your concerns. This Board is committed to transparency, working as a collective body, and making ourselves accessible to the citizens of our community.

Make February fabulous, spread the love, and perhaps reach out to a neighbor you haven’t met before.

We are Palmer Lake, and together we can move mountains!
