Neighbors,

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. As we all know well, the lion’s share of spring time weather in Colorado tends to bring, heavy wet snow. While not always fun, it’s great for our water levels and is setting us up for a safe summer. The good news is that the end of winter is in sight! With that, Spring brings a renewed sense of beauty, growth, and perspective.

The Easter Bunny is hopping into our town on March 30th for the annual Easter Egg hunt, held in the Village Green at 11am. Start your morning with breakfast at the annual Palmer Lake Fire Association pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8-11 am and then walk over for the hunt! Please bring a basket for collecting eggs. We are currently accepting wrapped candy donations to assist in stuffing over 5000 plastic eggs. If you would like to help stuff eggs, we will meet at the Town Hall on Friday March 29th at 9am.  All are welcome to help!

There are currently opportunities to consider. The Palmer Lake Parks and Trail Commission is seeking to appoint a new commission member. If this opportunity speaks to you, an application can be found on the town website. Please reach out to the office if you have questions or want more information. Awake the Lake is currently seeking individuals or a team to lead the efforts for the Festival on the Fourth. This event is a long-standing tradition and an integral part of the history of Palmer Lake. Reach out to Jeff Hulsmann at O’Malleys for more information. In addition, there are several opportunities for employment within the town; information can be found on the town website under job openings or reach out to the town office.

With department staff vacancies and the season slowly changing, please be patient with the operations of the Town. Departments are short staffed and working extremely hard to keep up with the demands.

The Board recently adopted a resolution regarding illegal migrants. It is the general sense of the Board that our community, while diverse and resilient, simply does not possess the financial resources nor the infrastructure required to support large numbers of migrants. We remain devoted to addressing the needs and concerns of our residents above all. We also initiated a collaborative approach to this matter that will respect the autonomy and unique needs and resources of all individual municipalities within El Paso County.

Board members are exploring future opportunities to benefit Palmer Lake including possible annexation. We continue to seek guidance and input from the public and are committed to prioritizing needs over wants for the future.

As always, I am available by appointment to meet with you. I value your ideas, questions, and concerns. May your March be lucky and blessed and may you find joy and gold in our community at the end of each rainbow.

Mayor Glant
