Hello Neighbors!

Spring has finally arrived!  The snow is melting and many of our trails are ready for hiking. It doesn’t get much better than waking up to the sun streaming on our mountains.

I had the pleasure of celebrating Arbor Day at Palmer Lake Elementary School this month. We studied the flora and fauna of our area, planted beans, purified water, and learned all about bees from the Pietsch family. Celebrating significant moments with the youth of our community inspires me and teaches me that our children and grandchildren are a huge testament to the future of Palmer Lake.

In honor of Arbor Day, we planted a Blue Spruce in the Village Green to be utilized as the living Town Christmas tree for years to come. I encourage all of you to take a family photo with our new town tree as a way of measuring its growth from year to year. This donation was made possible by the events committee of the Palmer Lake Arts Council, the Parks Commission, and the Hutson family.

We have had several ribbon cuttings over the last several weeks. Congratulations to both Alpine Essentials and Dead Flowers in celebrating their new retail ventures. Feel to stop by and welcome them personally.

Many thanks to the Palmer Lake Arts Council for their artistic endeavors and colorful display in the Town office. In addition, we had the opportunity to celebrate local stone mason and resident Jerry Merrick with a plaque at Elephant Rock entrance recognizing his life’s work.

Many infrastructure projects are currently underway such as water treatment upgrades, roadway improvements, and landscaping at the pedestrian bridge. Palmer Lake is amid a spring touch up!

We are celebrating new initiatives to benefit residents in the name of connectivity. The Board of Trustees has approved a new trail to be developed by the Parks Commission to connect the main area of our community to the Creekside trail in the Glen, and to connect via creek-crossing bridges to the Elephant Rock property. This is a wonderful new amenity coming to Palmer Lake. As you see the trail flagging and mitigation take place, please thank our Parks members and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the work they do.

There is a bustle of activity, not only in parks but, in the many outdoor events gearing up for the summer including the Fishing Derby, a BBQ Dinner Dance, and The Festival on the Fourth. Get involved as a volunteer to enjoy a new perspective. There are many opportunities to volunteer, meet neighbors, and simply have fun! Watch for upcoming volunteer opportunities posted on TownofPalmerLake.com, the Parks Commission page at https://www.facebook.com/palmerlakeparks, and various community events including https://awakepalmerlake.org/ and https://palmerlakecolorado.org/events/.

In the month of May, watch for the “Try Something New” commercial spot, airing on KOAA Channel 5, which will highlight local businesses and activities in and around the Tri Lakes area.

Each week I hold office hours on Wednesdays from 2-4pm and on Fridays from 9-11am. As always, the Board of Trustees values your thoughts and vision for the future of Palmer Lake. Let’s chat! Have a wonderful month of May neighbors!
